How to Add Your Beehiiv Subdomain to Google Search Console
7 easy steps to add your Beehiiv subdomain to Google Search Console and get it indexed.
While this is a travel newsletter and publication that focuses on helping you plan the perfect trip, there’s a chance that you may (a) already have a Beehiiv newsletter yourself, or (b) are considering starting a Beehiiv newsletter. And, you may want to know how to add your Beehiiv subdomain to Google Search Console to monitor, analyze, and improve your publication’s presence in Google Search results.
This is especially important for requesting indexing (ex. Your publication isn’t indexed or showing up in Google Search results) and measuring your publication’s search traffic and performance (ex. Clicks and impressions).
Here’s a quick, easy-to-understand 7-step tutorial on how to add your Beehiiv subdomain to Google Search Console.
7 Easy Steps to Add Your Beehiiv Subdomain to Google Search Console
Follow these 7 easy steps and you’ll have your Beehiiv subdomain added to Google Search Console in no time.
Step 1: Copy Your Beehiiv Subdomain
First, it’s important to get this out of the way. Your Beehiiv subdomain will look something like mine: https://palealetravel.beehiiv.com/. Simply put, your subdomain will end in (.beehiiv).
Step 2: Create/Use Your Google Account
Second, you need a Google account (ex. Google email). This will allow you to sign into Google Search Console.
Step 3: Time to Add Your Property Type
You can head over to https://search.google.com/search-console/about to get started. Click ‘Start Now’ and you will be brought to a screen that looks like this:
Paste your Beehiiv subdomain under ‘URL prefix’.
As you are unable to verify the entire Beehiiv domain and its subdomains, you’ll need to paste your Beehiiv subdomain under ‘URL Prefix’ (the right card). Click ‘Continue’.
Step 4: Verify Via Other Verification Methods ‘HTML Tag’
Beehiiv doesn’t allow you to upload an HTML file to it (which is the first option presented), so you’ll need to scroll down and select ‘HTML tag’ under ‘Other verification methods’.
Click on the dropdown arrow for ‘HTML tag’ - the one with the text that reads ‘Add a meta tag to your site’s home page’.
Step 5: Copy the Meta Tag
Simply copy the meta tag by clicking ‘COPY’ and navigate to your Beehiiv account. It’s time to paste this meta tag into your Beehiiv publication.
In your Beehiiv ‘Dashboard’, click ‘Design’ and ‘Website Builder’. In the top left, you will see three tabs, ‘Styles’, ‘Layouts’, and ‘Settings’.
Click ‘Settings’. Scroll down to ‘Google Search Console Verification Code’ and paste the copied meta tag into it. It’s important to note that you only need to paste your personalized number and letter string.
For example, it will look something like this: ‘<meta name="google-site-verification" content="paste your personal verification code" />’. You only need to paste the number and letter string that is between the two quotation marks.
Click off and your Beehiiv account will automatically save the newly pasted string.
Step 7: Click ‘Verify’ in Google Search Console
Click ‘Verify’ back in Google Search Console. You did it. You are now verified and will see a pop-up that says ‘Ownership verified’.
You will now be able to begin tracking analytics and Google Search result performance. Just keep in mind that it will take a day or two for Google to process and report back on data.
How to Request Indexing of Your Beehiiv Post
I imagine most of you are reading this because you want to index your Beehiiv posts and have them show up in Google Search results.
To do so, simply copy the link of whatever post you want to index (ex. ‘https://palealetravel.beehiiv.com/p/laptop-friendly-cafes-warsaw’) and paste it into the top search bar that has the text ‘Inspect any URL in “insert your Beehiiv subdomain here”’ and press enter.
On the right-hand side of the screen, you will see ‘Request Indexing’. Click this.
You have now successfully requested indexing by Google. However, this is never guaranteed and it may sometimes take a week or more for Google to index the submitted link.
I’ve had established sites index posts within an hour while I’ve had less established sites take over one week. It really depends.
When your post is successfully indexed, it will look like this:
